Time away from the lab in the mountains and on the ocean

I have been fortunate in my career to work in New Zealand, France and Australia. In between times in the lab, there have been trips to great places in the mountains in New Zealand and along the east coast of Australia.

Climbing in the mountains

In the early years in New Zealand, I would get away with friends for weekends climbing in the mountains of Otago, and in the summer holidays we would head off on cross country trips for a week or 10 days in the river valleys and mountains of the southern alps.

Kayaking

Once I moved to Australia, I swapped time in the mountains with regular sea kayak trips in Moreton Bay out from Brisbane over the weekends and longer trips in the summer to some of the beautiful coastal areas of the Whitsunday Islands and further north.
